The a2™ Farm Sustainability Fund helps our farmers lead the way in sustainable dairy, by partnering on projects that benefit climate, nature, cows, and communities.
At The a2 Milk Company, we’re committed to caring for our planet, cows and communities. One way we put that in action is through the a2™ Farm Sustainability Fund, which supports the people at the heart of it all – our farmers.
Each year, the Fund helps dairy farmers supplying a2 Milk™ across Australia and New Zealand bring their best sustainability ideas to life.
By supporting projects on farms, we’re helping drive progress that is practical and local. Together, these projects help create a stronger, more sustainable process from our farms to your fridge.
We support projects that take an integrated approach to building a sustainable future. That means they’re part of a cohesive, holistic picture. Each project creates a positive and meaningful impact for the community, environment, or cows.
To receive funding, projects must make a difference in at least one of our key priority areas. These cover climate, nature, cows, and communities.
From restoring wetlands to trialling new fertilizers and installing solar panels, past grant recipients are finding new ways to make farming more sustainable. These stories show the power of farmer-led ideas and how local action can create meaningful change.
Brad O’Shannessy has been accelerating sustainability improvements on his family’s dairy farm in Victoria with support from the a2™ Farm Sustainability Fund. Working with a local permaculture expert, the farm planted a large number of native trees across the property. These trees will provide shade for cows, encourage birdlife, and improve soil health and biodiversity.
We have a long list of improvements we want to do on the farm, and the fund has allowed us to speed up that process. The goal is to create a healthier environment for their herd and the land they rely on.
How do we decide which projects to fund? We ask industry and academic experts.
The a2™ Farm Sustainability Fund gets advice from an Investment Committee, which brings together independent experts in regenerative agriculture, soil health, animal wellbeing, and farming systems. The Committee reviews every application and makes recommendations to The a2 Milk Company.

Contracted a2 Milk™ farmers will be awarded funding for projects based on criteria aligned to The a2 Milk Company’s sustainability objectives and key priority areas including:

The a2™ Farm Sustainability Fund offers financial awards to certified a2 Milk™ dairy farms to support projects that promote the achievement of the Company’s sustainability objectives. Successful projects demonstrate an integrated approach to a sustainable future and enable a positive and meaningful impact across the environment in which we operate.
Since 2017, The a2 Milk Company has demonstrated its commitment to farm sustainability through its grants programme. This initiative which began in Australia and expanded to New Zealand in 2022, has successfully awarded over 65 projects, totalling more than $2,170,000.
All applications to the Fund are evaluated by an independent Investment Committee comprised of industry experts in regenerative agriculture, soil health, animal health and wellbeing and farming systems. Evaluation is based on criteria aligned to The a2 Milk Company’s sustainability objectives and key priority areas.
